Garden Route
Sheer cliffs, breaching whales and some of the most beautiful coastline in the world - Welcome to the Garden Route!
Experience fantastic hiking trails, wonderful beaches, charming towns and magnificent wildlife along the Garden Route.
At approximately 300km's long, this coastal route begins at Storms River in the Eastern Cape Province and ends at Mossel Bay in the Western Cape Province. However, we would highly recommend taking in a longer stretch of this wonderful coastline from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town to truly experience all this wonderful area has to offer.

Port Elizabeth is the gateway to several malaria-free game reserves, perhaps the most famous of which is Addo Elephant National Park located just over an hour away from Port Elizabeth. Addo, is home, not only to the big five, but also hosts great white sharks!
Addo Elephant National Park
Journey along the Garden Route from the dramatic starting point of Storms River Mouth where the river enters the Indian Ocean. Take in the unspoilt beauty from the Storms River suspension bridge, located in the Tsitsikamma National Park before continuing along your route. En route to Plettenberg Bay you will pass over the visually stunning Bloukrans Bridge, which standing at over 200 metres is the highest in Africa and for adrenaline-junkies, home to one of the tallest bungee jumps in the world.
Plettenberg Bay sunset
Stop off at the vibrant, waterfront town of Knysna, home to two imposing sea cliffs known as 'The Heads' which protect the entrance to the lagoon from the unrelenting Indian Ocean. Upon leaving Knysna, a popular detour from the Garden Route is a visit to Outdshoorn where you can explore the Cango Caves or visit an ostrich farm where you can stand on an ostrich egg, learn to tell the difference between males and females and if you're lucky you may get a chance to see ostrich chicks.
Knysna Heads
Stop off to see the 'Map of Africa' at Wilderness heights, a natural phenomena where the flow of the river has shaped a piece of land to look exactly like a map of the continent of Africa.
Whale, Hermanus
The official Garden Route comes to an end in the harbour town of Mossel Bay but we would highly recommend continuing your journey to include Hermanus where you are likely to spot Southern Right Whales if you visit during the whale season.
Boulders Beach penguins
No trip to Cape Town would be complete without a visit to Boulders Beach to see the penguins. They can be seen year round, but summer is prime time to see these wonderful birds. Finish off your trip in beautiful Cape Town where the majestic Table Mountain dominates this vibrant, historical city.
